Dear Friend,
Yesterday, Senator John McCain stopped by ISOH/IMPACT for an unexpected visit. He visited as Hurricane Gustav made landfall and began battering the Gulf coast. During his visit, the senator helped prepare buckets of disaster response supplies, showing that each of us must do our part. McCain implored others to step up and do whatever they can to help with the disaster relief response.
"Each one should use whatever gift he or she has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms," Senator McCain said, reading the verse that drives our mission.
"And as the hurricane strikes Louisiana as we speak, all Americans, I know, will be motivated by those words of serving others and using whatever gifts we have to help our fellow Americans," he said, encouraging others to get involved in relief efforts.
We need you to help us respond to the need at hand.
- Donate online to ensure that we can distribute the relief we've collected.
- Forward this email to friends and family. Encourage them to get involved.
- Download our disaster response handout and ask others to help.
- Commit to pray for the victims and ask the Lord to guide you in your response.
In the early hours after Hurricane Gustav, we can already see the damage the storm has caused along the US Gulf Coast. We give thanks that the damage was not as catastrophic as Katrina, but for the families who lost everything – their homes, livelihood, and material possessions – the devastation is total.
More than a million people are without power, and countless homes have been damaged or destroyed by wind, rain, and flooding.
The media has concentrated its reporting on a comparison between Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Katrina, and almost all the coverage centers on New Orleans. While we are thankful the city fared better than it did three years ago, many of the smaller towns surrounding the city are suffering serious damage from the storm.
Senator McCain's timely visit yesterday was a reminder that we can't afford to lose a single hour in our response to those whose lives have been devastated by this storm. His presence also served as a personal encouragement recognizing the tremendous difference ministry partners like you are making in the lives of others.

Please join us in this wake of Hurricane Gustav. Help us minister to our neighbors in their hour of greatest need. Thank you for your faithful support and prayers during this challenging time.
Reaching Out & Serving Others,

Linda Greene
