Emergency disaster relief is not static, with neat, clean prescriptions available. Effective humanitarian work involves finding out how to best meet the needs of children and their families within the many dimensions of any given crisis in their lives. The fluidity of a crisis requires ongoing analysis in order to respond appropriately. Planning and coordination are essential to ensure that a child, their family, and community are not only given food and clothing, but also seeds, tools, technical assistance, and health care. This is important so that families and their communities are empowered to go from relief to development.
Development means attaining food, security, and self–sufficiency. ISOH/IMPACT recognizes that in order for disaster relief to be long-lasting, genuine cooperation is essential among donors, governments, communities, and international organizations. Knowing where quick, targeted aid can make a difference and being prepared to respond in a timely fashion are among the directives of ISOH/IMPACT and our partners.
ISOH/IMPACT and partners are impacting local and national communities throughout the United States and around the world with shipments of food, water, and other commodities for the victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease and famine. With an administrative fee of less than 3% since 2003, ISOH/IMPACT has transported and distributed more than 830 forty foot containers of humanitarian relief worth an estimated $37 million. These commodities provided critical support to children, their families and communities in Africa, Asia, Central America, North America, the Middle East and South America.
