Washing Buckets for the Bucket Brigade

Participants from the Pemberville’s Bethlehem Lutheran Church Vacation Bible School came out last week to help with our Bucket Brigade! They cleaned out several stacks of pickle buckets for us to use and made just one request: Next time, could we get some hamburgers to go with all the pickles?

The clean-up begins...

ISOH/IMPACT has gained a lot of experience responding to natural disaster situations over the years. But even with experience, it is difficult to prepare the heart for the devastating aftermath of a storm like the one that tore through northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan this past weekend. The series of tornadoes left a trail of destruction in their wake: over 100 buildings damaged or completely destroyed, a school demolished, and the lives of seven people lost. Our hearts and prayers go out to those most affected by this devastating ordeal.

Even in light of the tragedy of this situation, the overwhelming response of the surrounding communities has been incredible. Having been among the first responders to bring food and water, ISOH/IMPACT promised to bring more supplies for the victims and volunteers working in Millbury. We returned the next day to find the volunteer center very busy and well stocked with donated supplies. Reports also indicate an incredible response of volunteers. Family, neighbors, and many more people who simply care and wanted to get involved, are working tirelessly to help provide the hands needed to sort through the mess left by the storm. While continued relief efforts will be necessary for weeks and months to come, the wonderful response of so many volunteers Reaching Out and Serving Others is already a testament to the generosity of the community.

While the current focus is on the situation in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, ISOH/IMPACT is already striving to prepare for any upcoming disasters across the country and around the world. We are encouraging the community to continue partnering with us by joining our Bucket Brigade. When you fill a bucket with either cleaning supplies or emergency food relief, you will ensure that when disaster strikes again, we are ready to respond immediately. Volunteers of all ages are pitching in to help Ohio's most recent tornado victims.
Deadly tornadoes ripped through Northwest Ohio early morning on Sunday, June 6, 2010, killing five people. Hundreds more are still reeling from the effects of the tornadoes, which destroyed houses, cars, and local businesses.

ISOH/IMPACT, based out of Perrysburg, OH, responded immediately to our neighbors in Millbury, the hardest hit town. We have been working with a local church to coordinate disaster relief needs and cleanup efforts.

"We are stretched to our limits," ISOH/IMPACT President Linda Greene said. "With our ongoing relief efforts in Haiti, the needs of our neighbors in OH, and the major hurricanes that are predicted to hit, we are really praying that people will step up and join our relief efforts. We can't do it without them."

You can help the families in Northwest OH begin to rebuild their lives. Join us today!
